Power Up, Speak Out! 6-8th Grade

A 5 Lesson Toolkit for educators that encourages middle school students to think critically about healthy relationships, power dynamics, boundaries, and consent. Our lessons teach students what TO do, instead of what NOT to do.

The five lessons are interactive and engaging. Each lesson has an icebreaker, accesses students’ prior knowledge, introduces a core concept, and has students apply the core concept. All lessons involve getting the students moving around the room. In addition, lessons rely heavily on classroom discussion and student involvement.

High School Health Enhancement Classes

Learning about good communication, safety in relationships, and growth and development lays a foundation that can support healthy relationships and healthy behaviors throughout a person’s lifetime. This 10 lesson series of 50 minute classes for high school students or a condensed 5 lesson series addresses topics such as: healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, effective communication & active listening, body positivity, teen dating, Title IX: rights and responsibilities, rape culture and media literacy, breaking up and handling rejection, interpersonal violence & sexual assault, suicide prevention and mental health, and enthusiastic consent.

All lessons involve multimedia presentations, role play, and small group instruction to deliver our healthy relationships core content. Our instructors employ classroom best practices, using teaching strategies that ensure a safe and respectful learning environment in which participants may share freely.

Coaching Boys into Men + Athletes as Leaders

Coaching Boys Into Men, created by Futures Without Violence, a 12-session Toolkit for boys’ sports teams that encourages discussions regarding healthy relationships, mental health, respect, and personal responsibility.

Athletes as Leaders, created by the Harborview Center for Sexual Assault and Traumatic Stress, is a Coaching Boys Into Men complementary program for girls’ athletic teams. The 10-session program aims to empower female-identified youth to take an active role in promoting healthy relationships and ending sexual violence.

Healthy Relationship Instruction for Grades K-8

The Prevention Education team loves to work with educators to develop healthy relationship instruction connected to what educators are already teaching in the classroom, with a specific focus on literacy instruction, special populations, SEL, and Indian Education for All.

Mentoring- Adults + Teens

This program creates the opportunity for healthy relationship modeling in student’s lives by providing an added connection to a non-familial adult. Designed for middle and high school students, our adult to student pairs meet for lunch one day per week during the school year. It is not a scholastic or tutoring based mentorship, nor is it therapy. These weekly meetings serve as a reminder for students that who they are, regardless of accomplishment or expectations, is enough. Some weeks we may play board games or do fun activities to bond over common interests, but the format is loose allowing for the pairs to navigate their own interactions.

Community Outreach and Education

At DSVS, our mission is not only to provide services to individuals and families impacted by interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and stalking but also to end the cycle of violence before it starts. Contact us today at info@powerupspeakout.org to request a presentation for your group or business, because everyone deserves healthy relationships.
