School Services
DSVS’s prevention education helps young people build the skills needed for healthy, respectful relationships. Through age-appropriate programming, students learn about boundaries, communication, trust, and the role of power and control—tools that help them recognize unhealthy behaviors and stay safer in their relationships.
Each year, DSVS’s prevention education team reviews national best practices, local research, and feedback from students and educators to create programming tailored to teens in Carbon and Stillwater Counties. We are grateful to the teachers, counselors, and administrators who partner with us to bring this education into local schools and support safer, healthier communities.
Student Programs
Power Up, Speak Out! is a healthy relationships curriculum developed in 2012 for middle school students. This curriculum has evolved and expanded to include separate, age-appropriate healthy relationship instruction for 5th/6th grade, 7th/8th grade, and high school. The purpose and goal of the prevention education instruction have remained the same. All curricula teach the fundamentals of healthy relationships, power dynamics, boundaries, and consent.
Teachers like the program because it teaches young people what to do, rather than what not to do. For more information about Power Up, Speak Out!, or to get your free Toolkit, visit the website.
Teacher Programs
The prevention education team offers professional development presentations to school districts in our service area. Teachers and school staff review their school’s Title IX policies and procedures as well as how to handle disclosure and the power of empathy. Training features scenarios to practice, discuss, and work through them as a team.
We provided CEU Credits! Please contact us for more information.
Violence Prevention Newsletter
Our violence prevention educator has created a Violence Prevention Education Newsletter that is sent out the first week of every month. Each month regards a topic in prevention education such as Mandatory Reporting, Domestic Violence, Mental Health, Suicide & QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), Stalking, Dating Violence, Secondary Trauma, Sexual Assault, Title IX, and Human Trafficking. Each issue includes a short write up about the topic, 3 resources (YouTube Videos, Articles, Statistics, Trainings, Lesson Plans, Worksheets, etc.), and what is going on at DSVS that month. Visit the Power Up, Speak Out! website to sign up.
Community Services
DSVS has been a presence in the community of Red Lodge since 1999. The awareness of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking has spread through Carbon and Stillwater counties thanks to the curiosity and support of our community.

Parenting Classes
Since 2021, DSVS has partnered with Conscious Discipline to bring free, trauma-informed parenting classes to our community. Hosted in collaboration with the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Carbon County, the four-part series provides more than education—it offers childcare, meals, and a welcoming space where caregivers can learn and grow together.
Rooted in the evidence-based Brain State Model, Conscious Discipline is a social-emotional learning approach that helps adults understand behavior through the lens of regulation and connection. Its “adult first” philosophy recognizes that when adults build their own self-regulation skills, they create the foundation for healthier relationships and stronger families for generations to come.
This partnership has become a transformative part of DSVS’s prevention education efforts. The program has engaged more than 200 parents, caregivers, educators, and advocates—strengthening families and deepening our community’s capacity for resilience.
